It’s nearly that awkward time of year where you don’t know if you want to turn the heat on or tough out the morning chill. Well, what if you get home from the game on a chilly evening to discover that your heat has stopped working or wake to find more than just your floor is cold? The putting on layers of clothes, digging out a space heater, the service calls and pricey repairs… The thought makes you shudder, doesn’t it? Or maybe you’re just cold and shivering…
Did you know there’s something you can do to prevent service calls and system breakage? It is recommended you have your unit tuned up at the beginning of Spring and the start of the Fall. An HVAC unit is similar to a car. You have to change the oil and rotate your tires every 3,000 miles to keep your vehicle running smoothly. Neglecting to do so leads to a costly repair or a need for a new car. People are generally willing to maintain their cars, seeing them as a necessary expense, but many neglect to invest in keeping their AC/Heat running smoothly. That is understandable, given the ever-rising cost of living today. But, in the end, like when you neglect your car, the wear and tear will eventually lead to your system going out on you, meaning a costlier repair or a system replacement. Not to mention, if your AC is not running efficiently, it runs longer and works harder than it needs to, leading to higher energy bills.
In addition to regular maintenance, you can also ensure energy efficiency and better air quality in your home by changing your air filter once per month. It seems like common sense that your filter needs to be changed regularly, but you’d be surprised at just how many put it off as an unnecessary expense. A recent survey said 97 percent of people know they should change their filter, but only 47 percent actually regularly do. People also buy filters that claim they last up to three months with the idea it saves them money. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Those filters accumulate more dust and dirt, leading to your system having to run for a longer period of time to make it comfortable. Thus, you pay more on your energy bill.
So, if you really want to save money and get prepared in advance for winter, consider investing in a maintenance agreement or at least schedule a tuneup. The Team You Can Trust will be more than happy to set you up with one. Just give our office a call. And remember — change those air filters monthly!
